United set to appoint technical director to help Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

According to reports, Manchester United are closing in on naming a technical director to work with head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

United have never had such a position at Old Trafford before, with coaches previously having more say over transfer decisions at Old Trafford.

The Evening Standard, however, now claim the manager has had major input into transfer process, with the new boss looking to have links with the Red Devils.

It is still unclear if there is an outstanding candidate for the role, but the same outfit suggest Mike Phelan and Nicky Butt could be among candidates in the running.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has done pretty well since replacing former Chelsea, Inter Milan and real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford, and was only recently handed the manager’s job on a permanent basis after initially being on temporary appointment.

However, the tactician could still need help, with reports suggesting he’s been ready to work alogside a technical director at Old Trafford– this had been an issue under Jose Mourinho.

Fans of the Red Devils have a strong link with legends of their club, so a dream team of Butt and Solskjaer could be perfect to get the squad following a crystal clear philosophy again after a poor few seasons under various managers in Scottish tactician David Moyes, Dutchman Louis van Gaal and Portuguse boss Mourinho following the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2013.

According to Spanish media reports, United are set to demand either midfielder Toni Kroos or winger Gareth Bale as part of any transfer deal for France international midfielder Paul Pogba to join la Liga giants Real Madrid this summer window.

As per Spanish outlet AS, as cited by the Daily Express, is claiming that United could ask that Real include either the Wales international forward or Germany international midfielder if they do agree to permit the World cup winner go this coming summer.
